Range Rover Evoque Recalled Over Airbag Problem

JLR has issued a pair of recalls covering the 2020 Range Rover Evoque because its knee airbags may not function properly in an accident. The company has recalled 1,473 Evoque SUVs over the right-side knee airbag and 1,270 over the identical airbag on the left side. Some vehicles may be included in both recalls.

Owners will need to wait for recall notices in the mail to find out whether their Evoque needs repair under one or both recalls. But dealers will know, so odds are no one will need to make two separate repair appointments.

The company tells federal safety officials that the adhesive holding the airbags in place may degrade over time. That can cause the airbag to unfold in its housing. No longer properly folded, it might not inflate correctly in an accident. In some cases, JLR says, unfolded airbags have fallen through their housings and become visible in the footwell.

Dealers will fix the problem by installing replacement airbags. Recall repairs are always free.
