Porsche Confirms End of Gas-Powered Boxster, Cayman, Macan

Porsche this weekend confirmed two rumored changes to its lineup. The German automaker will end production of its gasoline-powered Macan small SUV for non-European markets after 2026. It will also stop building the 718 Cayman Coupe and 718 Boxster convertible “sometime next year,” Reuters reports.

All three will get electric replacements.

2025 Porsche Macan 4 EV

We’ve already seen the electric Macan. Dealers should begin receiving the electric-vehicle (EV) version of the brand’s best-selling vehicle soon — Porsche previously said deliveries will begin in the second half of 2024.

It’s available in 402- or 630-horsepower versions, with a starting price of $80,450 (including the mandatory $1,650 delivery fee).

Porsche executive board member Albrecht Reimold told Germany’s Automobilwoche that the 718 twins will get an electric replacement in 2025. Their end has been rumored all summer, but Reimold’s comments confirm that an EV version will inherit the Cayman and Boxer names.
