Presenting a unique take on a hydrogen-fueled track-only special, the Pininfarina H2 Speed Concept envisions where zero-emissions performance could be heading in the years to come. Residing “halfway between a racing prototype and a production supercar,” this ultra-green carbon fiber bullet boasts dramatic hydrogen-fueled performance to match its dynamic style.

A combined effort between Pininfarina and its Franco-Swiss propulsion partner GreenGT, the H2 Speed Concept gets its go from a pair of race-bred electric motors fed by a GreenGT Full Power Hydrogen system that features an advanced twin-stack 210kW PEMFC (Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cell. The motors – one at each rear wheel to provide full torque vectoring – make a collective 500 horsepower and can propel the H2 Speed Concept from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds and on to 186 mph.

The H2 Speed Concept’s state-of-the-art fuel cell is fed by side-mounted tanks that can each store 6.1 kg of hydrogen and need only three minutes to refill. Rounding out this nascent racer’s sophisticated propulsion package is a highly efficient regenerative braking system. Pininfarina says the color scheme on the H2 Speed Concept was inspired by another of its experimental performance racers, the 1969 Sigma Grand Prix.
