Making good on its promise to create a limited run of cars based on a striking concept revealed at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show, the first Pininfarina Ferrari Sergio was revealed at the Yas Marina racing circuit adjacent to the Ferrari World complex in Abu Dhabi. As Pininfarina indicated shortly after the show car’s debut in Geneva, it will build only six of these mid-engine 2-seat roadsters that carry the name of the Italian design house’s legendary leader, Sergio Pininfarina, who passed away in 2012. Not surprisingly, all are already spoken for.

Like the original concept – which was crafted to celebrate a 60-year relationship between Pininfarina and Ferrari – the Sergio is based on a Ferrari 458 Spyder platform. Save for gaining a windshield and some tweaking around the taillamps, the exterior of the series-build variant remains remarkably true to its inspiration. The biggest mechanical change involved an engine upgrade of the concept’s 4.5-liter V8 rated at 570 horsepower from the standard 458 to the more potent 597-horse version fitted in the newer 458 Speciale. Given the Sergio weighs about 200 pound less than a standard 458 Spyder, that transition is projected to slice 0-62 mph times from 3.3 to 3.0 seconds and still ensure a top speed near the double-century mark.

While this Sergio’s interior displays a bit more commonality with the production Ferrari 458, it still boasts distinctive dash and seat trim. Although pricing for the Pininfarina Ferrari Sergio was not announced, it’s believed each of the six examples cost their respective owners about $3.9 million.
