Nissan will sell an all-new version of its Pathfinder midsize, 3-row SUV for the 2022 model year. The new Pathfinder looks dramatically different from the current model and features some significant changes to its working bits, as well.
The outgoing Pathfinder was one of the most car-like SUVs on the market. This time around its replacement looks much more truck-like. Similar to the recently relaunched full-size Armada SUV, the 2022 Pathfinder’s body takes its cues from a wide, angular, 3-slot black grille and flat hood expanse. The overall look is upright and blocky, moving back to horizontal taillights and a wide-stretched Pathfinder name across the liftgate.
Inside, a central 8-inch touchscreen (9 inches on higher trim levels) set higher than in most competitors dominates the dashboard. Materials look more upscale than in the car it replaces. Nissan says the new Pathfinder will offer seven “environments”, each with its own combination of trim and seat surfaces.
The new Pathfinder is powered by the same 3.5-liter V6 as the old model, giving it 284 horsepower. But output now goes to the wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission, taking the place of the continuously variable transmission (CVT) that received many negative marks on last year’s Pathfinder. Front-wheel drive is standard, but a completely new all-wheel drive system is available.
Pricing is not yet available. The 2022 Pathfinder will go on sale in the summer of 2021. The MSRP for the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder starts at $31,980 for the base model and ranges up to nearly $45,000 for the Platinum trim.
