Nissan Titan Warrior Concept takes it to the limit

Intent on showing a more aggressive take on its just introduced Titan XD pickup, Nissan’s Titan Warrior Concept debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Noting that the automaker has always “pushed the boundaries of traditional automotive design and engineering,” José Muñoz, executive VP, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and chairman, Nissan North America, Inc. said the high-profile concept does all that and more. With its desert-racer-inspired styling, unique features and hard-core off-road chassis tweaks, the Titan Warrior offers a sneak peek at “new territory where Titan might go in the future.”

Designed in California

Penned at Nissan Design America in La Jolla, California, the Titan Warrior Concept is finished in custom matte-gunmetal “Thunder” paint set off with “Magma” orange and black accents. Its look, inspired by ancient Greek warriors, represents “modern armor” and endows the truck with a stealthy but sinister quality. Key elements in the Warrior’s remake include an edgy carbon fiber fascia, more aggressive grille and vented hood, an integrated front skidplate, unique LED front/rear lighting, integrated roof-mounted LED off-road lights, cab and tailgate spoilers and quad chrome exhaust tips. The Warrior also features massively flared and extended fenders that increase its width by six inches, to better contain its 37-inch tall off-road tires mounted on custom 18-inch alloy wheels with a dark-matte machined surface.

Inspired by desert racers

While the Warrior’s potent Cummins 5.0-liter V8 turbodiesel engine and 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission carry over intact from the standard Titan XD, the suspension was upgraded to raise the  ride height by nearly three inches. New control arms, axles, ball joints anti-roll bars and hydraulic pressurized bump stops work with a racing style coil-over setup that includes performance shocks with an internal bypass reservoir to impart genuine go-anywhere capability.

The cabin of the Titan Warrior Concept features seats covered in a durable carbon-colored fabric that feature Magma orange accents and carbon fiber/chrome trim bits. Also on hand are a custom steering wheel milled from aluminum billet, integrated hot and cold drink containers in the center console, auxiliary toggle switches in the center and a trio of supplemental gauges that sit atop the dash. As for what may lie ahead, Muñoz observes the Titan Warrior Concept “gives an important signal to American truck enthusiasts that our vision for exploring new boundaries remains strong.”
