Consensus: May not rule the segment, but still boasts plenty of buyer appeal

Comfortable, Accommodating and Freshly Updated

With revised styling inside and out, more power and new in-cabin tech, the recently updated Nissan Pathfinder remains a compelling entry in the popular 3-row midsize SUV segment. Strengths include its comfortable, quiet highway ride, well-appointed interior and one of the most adult-friendly third-row seats in the category. Capacity-minded shoppers should keep in mind, however, that Pathfinder seating tops out at seven, while Pilot, Highlander and Traverse offer room for up to eight people, thanks to 3-position third-row seats. For most buyers the difference is immaterial, and it hasn’t stopped the Nissan Pathfinder from being a four-time member of our annual list of Best Family Cars.

Driving It

From our full review of the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder: "Even at 70 mph, the Pathfinder has plenty of passing might in reserve, so it’s easy to get by the 18-wheeler that keeps creeping into your lane. Around town the 7-passenger Pathfinder returns a smooth ride and sedan-like handling."

Compare and Contrast

We recently pitted the Pathfinder against some of the heaviest hitters in the segment, taking six midsize SUVs on a lengthy journey through deserts and mountains, over winding roads and highways. See how all of these new and recently updated models fared in our Midsize SUV comparison.

Owners’ Opinions

Pathfinder owner and KBB visitor Ducman has this to say about Nissan’s midsize SUV: "Power is good too, and I like the towing capacity. Electronics are easy to use and informative. You can even see the weather radar on the screen, or look up movie times. Fuel economy isnt as good as i expected, and I was disappointed that the ICC (intelligent cruise), completely misnamed, cannot be toggled to a standard mode. It constantly speeds up and slows down."
