Nissan, Infiniti Recall SUVs Over Fracturing Brakes

Nissan and its Infiniti luxury arm have recalled 1,430 SUVs because their front brake calipers can break. The rear brakes alone have enough power to stop the vehicle. But if the front brakes fail, the car will take a longer distance to stop. That could lead to an accident.

Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:

Nissan tells federal safety officials that “a supplier production issue that has since been corrected” left the front brake calipers weaker than designed.

The company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem. Employees discovered it at the factory, but not before some affected models were released for sale.

Nissan knows the serial numbers of the suspect parts. So, dealers will inspect the vehicles, look for calipers from the problematic production lot, and replace them.
