Mercedes-Benz EQS to Introduce Screen Spanning Entire Dashboard

There’s a heated battle in the auto industry to build the largest practical infotainment screen, but Mercedes-Benz is about to end it with an absurd answer. The forthcoming Mercedes EQS—an all-electric cousin to the marque’s flagship Model S sedan—will reportedly carry a so-called Hyperscreen that reaches the entire width of the cabin.

Hyperscreen makes its public debut at CES 2021. The all-virtual edition of the annual consumer electronics showcase is on January 7.

What we do know is that the Hyperscreen is one enormous, curved surface. It’s able to display separate images to the driver and front passenger. The display takes the place of the traditional gauge cluster. And it will manage climate controls and entertainment, as many automotive touchscreens now do.

Expect the EQS to reach showrooms this spring, with a price tag of around $100,000. The EPA has not yet tested the car’s range. Equivalent European tests gave it a range of 435 miles,. However, Euro testing typically results in much higher numbers than the American test cycle gives.
