Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for 2,943 vehicles from its high-performance AMG unit because the vehicles can lose all drive power.
The affected models all use AMG’s unique mild hybrid system, which uses an integrated high-voltage electric starter generator. Mercedes says a software problem can overload the processor that powers it. That could cause a sudden loss of propulsion.
Mercedes says drivers receive no warning before shutdown. Some have been unable to restart their cars after the fault.
Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:
- 2023-2024 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Coupe
- 2023-2025 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E
- 2024-2025 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E
- 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S E
- 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S E Coupe
- 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E
Dealers will fix the issue with a software update. Recall repairs are always free, and software updates are among the fastest repairs.
