Mere hours after unveiling the new 2017 Mercedes-Benz E400 4Matic Wagon, the wraps came off of its hotter sibling, the Mercedes-AMG E43 Estate. Destined for Europe, the E43 Estate packs an AMG version of the E400’s 329-horsepower/3.0-liter Biturbo V6 fitted with larger turbochargers to increase its output to 396 horses. Other AMG enhancements include a quicker-shifting 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic and rear-biased version of the 4Matic AWD system as well as a full AMG sport suspension and bespoke interior/exterior cosmetic/functional bits. Although the Mercedes-AMG E43 Estate won’t be heading here, it does provide an early indication of high performance hauler that’s well-placed sources indicate will hit showrooms here sometime next year.

While yet to be officially confirmed, a V8 E63 Wagon is in the works with camouflaged prototypes spotted testing in Europe. Likely to be launched this fall at the Paris Auto Show, the new Mercedes-AMG E63 Wagon will be fitted with a more potent version of AMG’s 4.0-liter Biturbo engine fitted in the new 2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 4Matic Coupe and Cabriolet. For this application, it’s expected to make about 550 horses in base tune but possibly crank out as many as 600 ponies in S-spec trim.
