McLaren Issues Brake Recall

2019 McLaren 720S

McLaren has recalled 29 cars because a misrouted brake line could cause one of the rear wheels to lock up.

Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:

The company tells federal safety officials that the anti-lock brakes and stability control system “may not function correctly due to the brake pipes being connected incorrectly into the control module, meaning the rear right and rear left brake pipes are braking the opposite wheel.”

In some cases, the system can attempt to brake one wheel to prevent a skid, but brake the opposite, “resulting in a locking condition of one of the wheels, which could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.”

The company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem, but says one owner experienced it at a track event (without damaging the car).

Dealers will inspect each vehicle to ensure the pipes are correctly routed, and reroute them if necessary.

Recall repairs are always free.
