Celebrating its motorsport heritage while offering a look at some of the unexploited potential that lies within its two best-selling passenger cars, Mazda took the wraps off four cool one-offs at SEMA. Each was penned in California by Mazda’s North American Operations design team and melds unique cosmetic touches with meaningful functional enhancements.
Mazda3 Club Sport 3
Complementing its competition-themed grey/black/red custom paint, the Mazda3 Club Sport 3 features a tasteful Mazda-Design accessory aero kit that will go on sale shortly and can be fitted to all 2014 Mazda3 models. It includes front/rear diffusers, side sills plus a rear spoiler all rendered here in gloss black. The Club Sport 3’s 184-horsepower/2.5-liter SkyActive-G engine is fitted with a Racing Beat performance exhaust system and backed by a modified 6-speed manual transmission from the CX-5 that uses revised ratios for quicker acceleration. Power heads to the front wheel via a Wavetrac helical limited-slip differential. Handling tweaks include a full CUSCO coil-over suspension kit, Brembo performance brakes and Rays 57 Motorsport G07FXX 10-spoke 19-inch alloys wrapped in sticky Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 235/35 performance tires. Rounding out the mix is a cabin clad in Red aniline leather with Black leather accents.
Mazda6 Club Sport 6
A bit more subtle but no less impressive, the Mazda6 Club Sport 6 also wears a Mazda Design accessory aero kit but features a Mazda Design-exclusive Composite Grey exterior with a Brilliant Black roof. Motivation comes from a Euro-spec 2.2-liter SkyActiv clean diesel engine that develops 161 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The same turbodiesel will be offered in the Mazda6 here next spring, although likely without the Club Sport 6’s Racing Beat exhaust system. Chassis upgrades include H&R sport springs, Brembo brakes, Rays 57 Motorsport G07FXX 20-inch 10-spoke alloys and a set of grippy 245/35 Yokohama S.drive tires.
Mazda3 Vector 3 Concept
Changing lanes from fast to fashionable, the Mazda3 Vector 3 Concept uses Deep Crimson accent touches on its Soul Red exterior to reinforce its understated "fractured line" graphic treatment that Mazda says was inspired by the runways of elite designer shows. It also features an H&R custom spring kit and Brembo super stoppers and wraps its 225/40 Yokohama S.drive performance tires around a set of 19-inch Rays Volk Racing Original G25 wheels.
Mazda6 Ceramic 6 Concept
Sporting a matte-finish Ceramic White exterior "littered with" subtle Taupe Silver accent stripes meant to recall the "linear frequency patterns" seen in couture gowns, the Mazda6 Ceramic 6 Concept elevates its visual game into new territory. Reinforcing its elegant ambiance is a cabin rendered in supple light and dark white leather with overlapping weave patterns and intricate Burgundy stitching details, the Ceramic 6 Concept seeks to evoke the feel of an Italian fashion studio. Style aside, this tasteful tourer still retains a healthy measure of its Zoom-Zoom DNA in the form of an H&R spring kit, Brembo performance brakes, 20-inch Rays Volk Racing Original G25 10-spoke alloys finished in Taupe Silver, and a Racing Beat custom dual-exhaust system.
