Mazda has begun a slow drip-feed of information about the CX-90, a midsize SUV designed to push the brand into more direct competition with luxury automakers. A recent video posted to YouTube showed Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada removing parts of the vehicle from boxes. The company plans to hand-assemble the car over a series of videos.

Today, Mazda revealed that it will offer the CX-90 with an inline-six. So-called “straight six” engines are known for their balance and lack of vibration. Luxury brands, like BMW, often favor them for midsize cars. Mazda’s version will produce 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque when using premium gasoline, the company says.

The CX-90 will also use Kinematic Posture Control, the company says. First introduced on the MX-5 Miata, KPC applies the brakes to the inner rear wheel in hard corners to help control body roll.

Mazda has previously announced that the CX-90 will be available as a plug-in hybrid model and will be the first electrified car the brand offers in all 50 states. Mazda sells one pure electric car, the MX-30, available only in California.
