Longer Land Rover Defender 130 On the Way

2022 Land Rover Defender 110 V8

The 2021 Land Rover Defender is available in two models – a short-wheelbase Defender 90 with two rows of seats, and a longer-wheelbase Defender 110, with three. But reviewers have found the 3-row model a bit cramped.

Land Rover plans to address that issue with a third model – the Defender 130. It may arrive late next year, probably as a 2023 model. “Defender 130 will hit a sweet spot in North America, China, and also the Middle East, which we’re not yet touching,” Jaguar Land Rover CFO Adrian Mardell told reporters.

We have few details on the vehicle yet. It will reportedly ride on the same platform as the 110, stretched by an additional 14 inches. That would make it not just the most spacious Defender, but the biggest Land Rover, longer than the 2021 Land Rover Discovery.

But, before Americans could buy the 130 in great numbers, Land Rover needs to solve ongoing supply problems. Dealers have trouble getting both the Defender 90 and Defender 110 in the United States after Land Rover recovers from a longer COVID-19 shutdown than most other automakers. At one point in 2020, the company promised each dealership that they would have at least one Defender to sell that year. Supply has begun to catch up, but it can still be difficult for American buyers to find the combination of color and options they want.

Pricing for the 110 today can range from $50,500 to $107,200 before the destination fee. A larger model would presumably be more expensive.
