Mercedes-Maybach added a third car to its model line (the other two based on S-Class sedans) with the S650 Cabriolet, a car that has the Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet as its foundation. Inspired by the Mercedes Vision 6 concept that was shown at the Paris Motor Show and at Pebble Beach, the first drop-top from the Mercedes-Maybach sub-brand, will be limited to 300 units of which only 75 are coming to the U.S.
The 4-seat Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 twin-turbo engine that puts out 621 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, and uses Mercedes’ 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission. The rear-drive cabriolet has a top speed of 155 mph, and its AIRMATIC air suspension keeps the ride comfortable as the scenery whizzes by.
Maybach Exclusivity
While this model is based on the S-Class Cabriolet all the way down to sharing the engine found in the Mercedes-Benz AMG S65 Cabriolet, what sets it apart is the bespoke Maybach treatment. The Cabriolet sports 20-inch forged wheels, new front bumper, chrome accents and Maybach badging. In addition, there are only three color combinations for America: Zircon Red with a porcelain and black interior and black soft top, Cote d’Azur blue with a porcelain and saddle brown interior and beige soft top, or designo Diamond White with a porcelain and yacht blue interior and dark blue soft top.
The interior is unique to the Cabriolet with Nappa leather seats designed with a "waterfall-like" appearance, and the seats’ side bolsters diamond quilted. For two of the three color combinations — Zircon Red and Diamond White — the interior theme is that of "flowing lines," inspired by the Arrow 460-Granturismo yacht designed by Mercedes-Benz Style. The Cabriolet has deep-pile floor mats and chrome "1 of 300" on the cup holder. Trim is a wood veneer, unique for each of the three color schemes. There are Mercedes-Maybach logos embroidered on the front side of the seats, embossed on the backs of the headrests, and inlaid in the cover of the front storage area. There’s also Maybach lettering at the bottom of the steering wheel.

The Extras
Those who opt to be one of a very select few to own a Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet will receive a luggage set from the Maybach – Icons of Luxury collection. It consists of two travel bags and two lifestyle bags, made from the original vehicle leather and tailored to match the individual car. It also bears the "1 of 300" lettering, as does the car’s Nappa leather keyring — which also uses the same leather as in the cabin. Buyers will receive a diamond-quilted fabric car cover that matches the color of the cabriolet’s soft top, plus a certificate signed by Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. Dealers are currently taking orders for the Cabriolet, which will be available in summer 2017. While pricing has not yet been announced, as a point of reference, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S65 AMG Coupe, which has a 621-horsepower AMG V12 under the hood starts at about $250,000.
