Lexus has issued a recall order for about 4,300 2022 NX SUVs because their front shock absorbers can detach, potentially causing drivers to lose control. The company believes that fewer than 1% of 2022 NX SUVs are affected. But it has asked dealers to stop selling them while it investigates.
In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Lexus explains that the factory may have failed to perform several spot welds in the production process. “Missing spot-welds between the body panels and the front shock absorber mounting areas may cause the front shock absorber to separate from the mounting area.”
Lexus is still developing a remedy for the problem. Recall repairs are always free, but the company hasn’t yet determined what repairs may be necessary in this case. It plans to notify owners through the mail in early June. Concerned owners can contact Lexus customer service at any time by calling 1-800-331-4331. Lexus’ number for this recall is 22LA02.
