Automakers routinely push out special editions of their vehicles. Most feature unique color combinations and packages of features they don’t otherwise offer, but only Land Rover provides these special editions with their own off-road competitions.
This Is the Land Rover in Your Imagination
The Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition is probably the vehicle that comes to mind when you hear the phrase “Land Rover.” It’s based on the Defender 90 P400 X-Dynamic SE.
It has the iconic black-over-muted-yellow paint scheme, the iconic dark green door decal, and the iconic ladder to help you access a roof rack capable of holding an expedition’s worth of gear.
It comes with a built-in winch and front-and-rear mud flaps. There’s an integrated air compressor so you can air down your tires for soft terrain and fill them back up when you find tarmac again. The Trophy Edition rides on an adjustable air suspension capable of increasing the ground clearance by nearly 3 inches at the touch of a button.
It’s Pricey, but Includes an Adventure
The Trophy Edition isn’t cheap — $95,000 plus $1,475 for delivery. Land Rover says it will be available this month.
And it comes with an utterly unique and captivating feature.
Each vehicle comes with an entry into a one-day off-road adventure called the Defender Trophy Competition. Up to 90 teams of two drivers each can travel to the Land Rover Experience Center in Manchester, Vermont, for a competition featuring on- and off-road driving challenges.
The winning team will get an entry in the Classic Land Rover Trophy Competition. It will be held next spring in the U.K.
Want a safari-worthy Rover, but not sure your skills are up to the challenge? “Expert one-on-one coaching will be provided as part of the adventure,” Land Rover says, “giving customers a unique opportunity to develop extreme driving techniques and skills in their own vehicle before putting their training to the test.”
