Latest in a string of collaborative efforts between Italian supercar maker Lamborghini and the Milan-based coachbuilder Zagato, the Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato made its debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2014. Commissioned by Albert Spiess, who owns one of the world’s preeminent collections of Lamborghini and Zagato-bodied vehicles, this unique exercise was created to be "a real contemporary collectible car." Based on the Gallardo LP570-4 – the best-selling Lambo in the firm’s 50-year history – it also serves to celebrate 95 years of Zagato’s distinctive design work.

In addition to giving the contours of this recast Gallardo a bit more organic character, the Zagato transformation also revised the car’s overall proportions to extend the nose and trim the tail. Up front, the angularity is replaced by more rounded contours while the visual signature of the hood is stretched thanks to a functional wind deflector at the base of the windshield. In profile, the Gallardo’s side intakes have been diminished in favor of supplemental cooling inlets concealed in the glass as well as a functional roof panel air scoop. The car’s top also features Zagato’s signature "double bubble" configuration. The oval theme is reprised in the Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato’s slightly shortened tail, which also houses circular rear lights, dual paired chrome exhaust tip and an auto-deploying active rear spoiler.

"I always appreciated the ability of Zagato to create timeless lines with a forceful visual impact. I believe that a sensual design inspired by nature, together with the best technology, strike a perfect balance that is possible to achieve only in Italy," noted Spiess at the reveal. "The 5-95 will be a fundamental piece of my collection."
