A recent poll of visitors to the KBB.com site by Kelley Blue Book Market Intelligence found that — if properly priced — natural gas-powered vehicles would merit serious consideration by the vast majority of those who responded. The key qualifier in the query was that the vehicle would have to be available with no cost premium compared to its conventional sibling. However, if that were to be the case, an impressive 38 percent of those who responded said that would be highly likely to purchase an NGV for their next vehicle and 36 percent would at least consider one. Only 25 percent claimed to have no interest in going the NGV route.
The same Market Intelligence poll also inquired about potential preferences buyers had toward particular types of alternative fuels. Here, too, natural gas headed the list, being favored by 23 percent of respondents. It was followed by hydrogen (14 percent), hybrid/plug-in hybrid (14 percent), and biodiesel (10 percent). The relative stats for pure EVs as well as vehicles powered by solar, ethanol and propane all fell into the single digits while 16 percent of those polled said they would never consider an alternative-fuel of any kind.
