Jeep Teases Electric Wagoneer S With 3.5-Second 0-60 Time

The next Jeep SUV will be the quickest factory vehicle the company has ever produced, with 600 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of just 3.5 seconds.

How will a company known for off-road skill and boxy shapes get that kind of speed? Not with a V8 (Jeep is steadily retiring those). With electricity.

Jeep today teased a vehicle we’ve long known was coming and dropped a few details no one outside the company knew yet. The 2025 Jeep Wagoneer S “will be sold in the U.S. in the fall of 2024 and then in key markets around the world,” the company says.

Jeep’s first pure electric vehicle (EV), the Wagoneer S is part of the brand’s “Zero Emission Freedom” plan, which started with the plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe.

Boxy Jeep Costume on a Sleek EV Body

The teaser photo shows just the front fascia, but past hints have shown that it’s a 2-row midsize SUV with a panoramic glass roof. Clever design tweaks give it a semblance of the traditional boxy Jeep look but better aerodynamics. The roofline, for instance, is more curved than it looks, with wide roof rails that flow into a rear spoiler and look, from the side, more structural than they are.

A lighting arrangement mimics the traditional 7-slot grille even though, as an EV, the Wagoneer S doesn’t need the airflow of a grille.

Jeep appears to be sticking with “Wagoneer S” for the vehicle’s name. The company initially called that a placeholder name and announced a contest to name the SUV. They must not have found a winner.

But the name will leave Jeep with a lot of Wagoneers on the lot – the electric, midsize Wagoneer S; the gas-powered full-size Wagoneer; and the stretched Grand Wagoneer. To complicate matters, the Wagoneer S looks about the same size as the Grand Cherokee. Jeep no longer sells any Cherokees that aren’t grand, having sent the Cherokee compact SUV into retirement last year.
