Jeep Debuts Cheaper Wrangler Willys Plug-in Hybrid

The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Willy's edition

  • The 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe starts at $53,995, plus a $1,595 destination fee.

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is America’s best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle. With its 22 miles of all-electric range and its 375 total horsepower, it strikes a fantastic balance between efficiency and capability. And it offers all the style of the classic off-roader.

A Toyota RAV4 Prime or Ford Escape plug-in hybrid will give you great all-electric performance. But you may not get that same tingle looking at it that Wrangler owners love.

As many boxes as the Wrangler 4xe ticks, it’s not affordable. A starting price of nearly $55,000 keeps it out of reach for many – and that only applies if you can find a dealer selling one for something close to sticker.

The high price comes, in part, because the 4xe is available only on pricier Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude Wranglers. Today, Jeep announced a move to ease that issue. The Wrangler 4xe will be available as a cheaper Willys edition for 2023.

Cheaper is a relative term here. The Willys 4xe starts at $53,995, plus a $1,595 destination fee. That gets buyers black 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, a limited-slip rear differential, rock rails, and a 9-speaker audio system.

Jeep distinguishes this one with the classic Willys stencil on the hood, outlined in electric blue to show off that this is a 4xe model. The signature blue tow hooks poke out from beneath a gloss black grille. LED headlights and fog lights are standard.

Jeep says it will start accepting orders immediately, with delivery expected in the fourth quarter.
