Jeep Brings Automatic Back to V6 Wrangler

2024 Jeep Wrangler High Altitude 4xe parked on gravel near a trail.

That was fast. In September, Jeep announced that buyers interested in a V6-powered Wrangler would soon have to choose a manual transmission. For the 2025 model year, Jeep would offer automatic transmissions with 4-cylinder and V8-powered Wrangler models, but not with the V6 powertrain.

Jeep fans, apparently, didn’t like the news. Yesterday, the company changed its mind.

“Fueled by the enthusiasm of the Jeep community, Jeep announces the return of the optional TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission for the 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4-door model equipped with the 3.6-liter V6 engine,” Jeep has announced.

They’ll have to pay extra for the automatic, and it won’t be cheap. The 6-speed manual transmission will remain standard on V6-equipped models. “The TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission is available as a $4,500 option, engineered for smooth operation and maximum efficiency, and pairs seamlessly with Wrangler’s four available, advanced 4×4 systems: Command-Trac, Rock-Trac (part-time and full-time), and Selec-Trac,” Jeep says.

The Wrangler 4xe comes exclusively with an automatic.
