Jeep Adds Long-Wheelbase Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer

The biggest Jeeps are getting bigger.

For the 2023 model year, Jeep will add a long-wheelbase L model to its Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer full-size SUVs. The move allows them to compete with the biggest SUVs on the market. But, notably, even with their added length, they’ll be the shortest long-wheelbase SUVs on the market. At 130 inches, the Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L will trail the Lincoln Navigator L, Cadillac Escalade ESV, and GMC Yukon XL. The total length of the models is 226.7 inches.

Jeep hasn’t announced pricing for either model. The 2022 Wagoneer starts at $58,995, and the more luxurious Grand Wagoneer starts at $88,640. When Jeep added a long-wheelbase version of its Grand Cherokee midsize SUV, the extra length added just $2,000 to the price. We expect the price increase for a long-wheelbase Wagoneer or Grand Wagoneer to be similar.

First Appearance of New Hurricane Engine

The new L versions will come standard with Jeep’s new Hurricane twin-turbo inline-6-cylinder engine. This is the first announced use of the engine that Jeep and other Stellantis brands plan to use to replace the aging-but-legendary Hemi V8.

The Wagoneer will get the standard Hurricane, good for 420 horsepower. The Grand Wagoneer will get an upgraded Hurricane Twin Turbo 510, making – you guessed it – 510 horsepower.

The Hurricane engines are supposed to make Stellantis vehicles more fuel-efficient. That’s a hard task to pull off in the heaviest vehicles, and they’ve barely managed it. The Wagoneer L is rated for 19 mpg in combined city/highway driving – an improvement of 2 mpg over last year’s Wagoneer. The Grand Wagoneer L is certified for 16 mpg combined. That’s an improvement of 1 mpg over last year’s base Grand Wagoneer.
