Hardcore sports sedan fans, now it’s time to take notice. It’s time to believe in monsters, and Jaguar’s most wonderfully evil super-sedan, the XE SV Project 8 is Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations’ 4-door master of acceleration, braking and cornering. Now SVO has the proof: The 592-horsepower Jaguar XE-based rocket pocketed the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio’s 7-minute, 32-second second time around the Nürburgring’s 12.9-mile Nordschleife circuit by 11 seconds, logging a time of 7 minutes, 21.23 seconds. A thus-far undisputed record time for a sedan around the Nordschleife.
True, the XE SV Project 8 and its 5.0-liter supercharged V8 cost $188,495 and is limited to a production run of 300, but facts are facts and the record stands for “production-intent” sedans. Other facts include a 0-60-mph time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 200 miles per hour.
In making such quick work of a lap of the Nürburgring, the Project 8 bests a number of 4-door performance cars from around the world, including the Volvo S60 Polestar, Honda Civic Type R and Porsche Panamera Turbo. Both BMW’s M division and Mercedes-AMG have yet to field a quicker 4-door than these.
