Catering to the most demanding group of customers around the world, Jaguar Land Rover has created a new business unit dedicated to creating unique "high specification" vehicles that reinforce and showcase the global reputation of both brands. Based at a new Technical Center near its current Browns Lane facility in Coventry, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations will focus on turning out halo vehicles ranging from ultra-luxury to ultra-performance derivatives of existing models as well as fashioning limited-run collector editions — a mission that opens the door for specials like the striking Jaguar Project 7 pictured here.

Heading the new JLR Special Operations design and engineering team is Paul Newsome, a veteran of the Williams Formula One organization at Williams Advanced Engineering. The 150 specialists in his charge have access to state-of-the-art F1-inspired workshops and a fully automated paint facility. Newsome and company will focus on developing variations on the current and future JLR vehicle portfolios as well as produce custom-commission cars. Jaguar also announced a new heritage vehicle workshop at Browns Lane will open on August 1st. In addition to expanding the automaker’s existing service and restoration business, this new facility will be the birthplace of six lightweight recreations of the classic E-Type.
