Luxury sports coupe shoppers have few options. Even fewer soon.
The Infiniti Q60 won’t see another production year. Nissan’s luxury division has confirmed that it will end production of its little 2-door at the end of 2022.
The 2022 Q60 is a sharp-looking luxury sport coupe with a reasonable price. But it’s never been the successful driver’s car it was meant to be. Our test driver found the 300-horsepower V6 engine “a pleasure to rev,” but the steering “numb” and said the suspension “isn’t particularly athletic.”
A spicier Red Sport 400 version ups the power, but our reviewer still found it “doesn’t seem as much fun as 400 horsepower should.”
The 2022 Q60 starts at $41,750, plus a $1,025 shipping and handling fee.
Rather than trying to solve the sports car problem, an Infiniti spokesperson says, the company is “focusing on the most popular luxury automotive segments such as crossovers and SUVs, as well as the upcoming EV we recently announced that will be built here in the U.S.”
If you’re in love with the Q60, don’t let our criticism deter you. Infiniti will plan to continue production until the end of the year. That means dealers will probably have Q60s available into the spring of 2023.
The production halt may not mean great prices, though. In a normal year, announcing the impending end of a car tends to drive down prices. This year, nothing tends to drive down prices.
An ongoing microchip shortage has pushed car prices to record highs. The sportiest cars are selling at the highest premiums – buyers paid more than $4,000 over sticker price for luxury sport coupes last month on average.
