The first official image of the Infiniti QX30 Concept, which will debut at the Geneva Motor show, has been released by the Japanese automaker. The concept is a preview of the production version of a new compact crossover SUV that Infiniti is positioning to take on rivals like the 2015 Lexus NX, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Lincoln MKC. No firm launch timetable for production model has been given.
Combining coupe-like styling on a crossover platform, the QX30 Concept has a sleek profile while providing the raised stance and command of the road driving position found in SUVs. Infiniti‘s says a theme of "stylish protection" is evidenced in a more pronounced aluminum-trimmed bumper up front, while the rear sports a skid plate that rounds up into the body and is sculpted with nuanced graphics.

Spontaneous fluid design
"We wanted the spontaneous fluidity of the QX30 Concept design to cut through the urban clutter and rigidity, reflecting its go-anywhere and spur-of-the-moment nature," said Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Executive Design Director. "The QX30 Concept has been designed to make occupants feel safe and protected inside, and customers can drive in or out of the city without worrying about nicks to the chromework."
Adding to the vehicle’s go-anywhere, do-anything look is the use of carbon fiber in the lower cladding and 21-inch wheels with large profile tires. The wheels feature three-dimensional milled aluminum interlocking spokes finished in different tones. The carbon fiber roof racks combine functionality with design. Extending inward toward the center of the glass roof, they provide a "sculpture" for the rear passengers to look through.
