Infiniti is recalling 2021 Q50 sedans and Q60 coupes over a sudden stalling problem that has led to at least one accident, in which no one was injured.
At issue is a software problem. The cars’ engine control module reduces fuel flow to the engine after hard acceleration but can cut so much flow that the engine stalls. The car suffers no permanent damage from the stall and is able to restart immediately. But stalling at speed can cause a loss of control.
Dealers will fix the issue with a software update, which is free. But these models do not receive over-the-air updates, so owners will need to bring their car to the dealership for repair.
Many cars face recalls, often more than once, at some point in their lives. Automakers try to reach every owner to let them know to bring the car in for repair, but some always slip through the cracks. To find out whether your car has any outstanding recalls, visit our recall center.
