A compact luxury car is pleasant to own, but some are more pleasant than others. Some are at the top of the list, and some bring up the rear. According to our editors, the 2024 Infiniti Q50 sedan is number 14 out of 14 on our list of the best compact luxury cars.
Mostly unchanged since the 2014 model year, the 2024 Q50 has a powerful engine and a generous list of standard features. Still, KBB expert test driver Colin Ryan says it “seems like a carryover from an earlier era of automotive transport. And that’s exactly what it is.”
It won’t be for much longer. Infiniti will end Q50 production after the 2024 model year, the company has told multiple media outlets.
Luxury sedan shoppers might still want to give the Q50 a close look. It has its virtues and will likely be more affordable now that Infiniti has announced its retirement date.
Starting at $44,200 (including the $1,150 delivery fee), the Q50 offers 300 horsepower from its twin-turbo V6 engine, more power than many rivals at this price. An upgraded Red Sport 400 version boosts that to 400 hp.
Buyers can choose rear-wheel drive (RWD) for that sporty feeling or all-wheel drive (AWD) for foul-weather confidence and grip through the curves.
Dealers sometimes accept lower offers for a car after the factory announces its cancelation. They want to clear space on the lot for something shoppers still see in advertisements. Infiniti knocked nearly $6,000 off the price of the average Q50 last month before anyone knew the official deadline.
The move leaves Infiniti as an all-SUV brand, at least temporarily. The brand is in the midst of a makeover, having teased four all-new models late last year, including a sharply styled electric sedan.
Infiniti has since revealed the first of those four teases, an all-new QX80 flagship SUV for the 2025 model year, hinting that the other three are coming. We expect Infiniti’s return to the sedan game before long.
