Hyundai Recalls Tucson; Warns Owners to Park Outside

2020 Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai has recalled 471,000 Tucson SUVs due to a fire risk. It’s also warns owners to park the vehicles outside until they are repaired.

The recall affects Tucson models from the 2016-2018, and 2020-2021 model years.

Hyundai says the computer that controls the cars’ antilock brake system can malfunction, causing a short circuit, and possibly fire. The short can occur even if the vehicle is turned off. The company is aware of 12 fires related to the defect, but thankfully, no injuries. Hyundai is urging owners not to park the cars in garages to lower the risk of a car fire becoming a house fire until the repairs have been completed.

As with all recalls, the issue will be repaired free of charge. SUVs with the optional Smart Cruise Control feature are not being recalled.
