Hyundai Recalls Ioniq 5 N Over Braking Issues

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N seen in profile

Hyundai has issued a recall for 1,589 Ioniq 5 N high-performance vehicles from model year 2025 to fix two software-related braking issues.

The Ioniq 5 N is an extremely high-performance version of Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 electric SUV. It has extensive software modes and settings for use on the track.

One of them allows left foot braking – simultaneous use of the brake and accelerator pedals to complete certain track maneuvers. It’s not something you’d attempt in traffic.

Hyundai tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that, due to a software error, the left-foot braking system can trigger the automatic braking system to depressurize, unexpectedly increasing braking distance. No driver wants to be on the track at high speed and have the brakes not work as expected.

Separately, the Ioniq 5 N has a feature that allows drivers to shift it like a manual transmission. When it’s engaged, Hyundai says a software error may cause the car to continue to accelerate briefly even after the driver releases the accelerator pedal.

Dealers will fix both issues with a software update. However, the patch isn’t ready yet, so Hyundai has asked owners not to use left-foot braking or the “N e-shift” feature until it is.
