Hyundai has recalled 1,508 Ioniq 5 N high-performance electric SUVs from model year 2025 because a software problem can cause reduced braking performance.
The Ioniq 5 N includes a “left-foot braking” function that lets the driver use both pedals simultaneously for certain performance driving maneuvers. The company tells federal safety regulators that a software problem can cause the left-foot braking function to depressurize the antilock braking system (ABS).
If that happens, the brakes will still be able to stop the car, but drivers will have to press harder than anticipated on the pedal, and the car may take longer than normal to stop. That could lead to an accident.
Dealers will update the software to fix the problem. Hyundai asks owners not to engage the left-foot braking function until dealers have had the chance to update the software in their cars. Software updates are typically quick service appointments.
By law, dealers never charge for recall-related repairs.
