Honda has recalled more than 303,000 Accord sedans and HR-V SUVs from model years 2023 and 2024 because their seatbelts might not function properly in an accident.
Honda tells federal safety officials some front seatbelt pretensioners were assembled without a critical rivet. A seatbelt pretensioner tightens a seatbelt instantly during a car accident or hard braking. That helps to limit how your body moves. “Pretensioners missing a rivet will not properly restrain the occupant in the event of a collision, increasing the risk of injury,” Honda says.
The company says it “has received seven warranty claims” related to the problem, but no reports of injuries or deaths. It believes that as few as 1% of the recalled vehicles may be missing the rivet. But it needs to inspect them all to find them.
Dealers will inspect pretensioner assemblies and replace them entirely if the rivet is missing.
