The 2022 Honda Civic revealed earlier this month may not have a manual transmission option, but the two forthcoming high-performance models will.
For years, Honda has accommodated performance-minded Civic buyers with two different grades of fast Civic. The Si model traditionally carries a few performance-oriented tweaks and a price tag a little above the standard Civic lineup. But it’s still comfortable as a daily driver. The Type R is a step above that, with nearly every component tuned more for track performance than commuting comfort. It’s usually the priciest Civic by a good distance. Past Civic Type Rs have been quick enough to make appearances at track day events and make more compromises on comfort in the name of cornering speed.
The Civic is entirely new for 2022. The new model looks more upscale than past Civics and comes only with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). But Honda says Si and Type R trims are coming.
Not only will they be available with a stick. They’ll only be available with a stick.
Unfortunately, that’s all the information we have about the two sporty Civics so far. Honda says the Si may appear before the end of the year, but we shouldn’t expect any info on the Type R until 2022.
