Honda and its Acura luxury division have issued a recall for 294,612 vehicles because a software error can cause their engines to stall during normal operation.
Recalled models include:
- 2022-2025 Acura MDX Type S
- 2021-2025 Acura TLX Type S
- 2023-2025 Honda Pilot
In a statement, Honda cites “Improper programming of the fuel injection electronic control unit” as the problem. The company tells federal safety officials that sudden throttle inputs can cause the engine to stall and the check engine light to illuminate.
Because the issue is limited to software, the check engine light doesn’t indicate actual engine damage in this case, Honda says.
The company knows of no accidents or injuries but at least 674 warranty claims related to the issue.
Dealers will fix the problem by reprogramming the unit. Software updates are typically quick service appointments. By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
