The Honda CR-V has been one of the best compact SUVs on the road for its nearly 3-decade existence. These days, in SUV-obsessed America, it’s Honda’s best-selling vehicle.
The Japanese automaker completely redesigned the CR-V last year, so it needed almost no changes for 2024.
The new model is known for refinement, with Euro-style body lines and an upscale cabin. A more sophisticated suspension setup than most affordable compact SUVs and a stiffer frame give it a ride that balances comfort and sport.
Honda sells it in three conventionally-powered trim levels and three hybrid editions.
The top of the lineup is the Sport Touring Hybrid. A 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine powers it mated to an electric motor for a combined 204 horsepower — 19 more than conventional CR-V models. That’s the key to understanding the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid — it doesn’t get more fuel efficiency from modest performance like past hybrids. It’s the best performer and the most refined car in the CR-V lineup.
A manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $39,500 to start pushes the Sport Touring Hybrid close to luxury car prices. But it pushes close to luxury car refinement, too, and gets 40 mpg in combined driving.
It comes standard with almost every feature Honda can build into a CR-V. But buyers can opt for an HPD (that’s Honda Performance Division) package with sporty exterior enhancements, a Utility Package with roof rack cross bars and running boards, and several protection packages of floor mats and cargo trays.

More power and more efficiency
Hybrid editions of gas-powered cars used to trade away performance to get better fuel economy. Honda threw that logic out with the CR-V. Its hybrid trim levels give you cake to eat and cake to keep. The hybrid CR-V gets more power than gas-powered versions (204 horsepower instead of 190) and standard all-wheel drive (you’ll pay extra for it in gas-powered versions). But they also get up to 40 mpg in combined driving, saving you up to $500 a year in gasoline, according to the EPA.
Traffic Jam Assist
Honda’s Traffic Jam Assist system is one of the best driver assistance technologies available this year. It can take over accelerating, braking, and steering to keep pace with traffic up to 45 mph. You still have to stay alert and keep your hands on the wheel, but it’s a real fatigue-saver on road trips or a commute home after a long work day.
Stylish interior design
The 2024 CR-V has one of the more unique interiors in its class. It’s functional, with a high-mounted screen to keep your eyes near the road even when checking the navigation map. It’s stylish, with an eye-catching honeycomb line down the center of the dash. And the Sport Touring Hybrid gets an added dash of personality with leather-trimmed seats accented in orange stitching.
