GM Reportedly Reopens Orders for Corvette Z06

We see it from a front quarter angle, facing slightly to our right. If you’re in the market for a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, we have some unexpected good news. Chevy has reportedly re-opened order books for its most high-performance car. We didn’t expect that to happen for the rest of 2022.

GM Authority reports that Chevrolet “will in fact be accepting new dealer orders for the Corvette Z06″ this month. “It’s unclear at this time how many orders GM will accept for the 2023 model year, nor is it known how many units of the sports car will be produced.”

The Corvette Supercar

The Chevy Corvette has been GM’s most high-performance car for decades. The current ‘Vette takes that title to extremes, with an exotic-car-like mid-engine design.

With a starting price of $65,895 (plus $1,395 delivery), it offers Ferrari-like looks and handling balance for a stunningly low price.

The Z06 is something entirely different.

A step up from the standard Stingray, it adds race-bred equipment like a 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 with a blistering 8,600 rpm redline, optional carbon-ceramic brakes, and removable panels that let drivers increase downforce for track days.

The Z06 nominally starts at $105,000 (plus that same delivery fee). But Chevrolet can build a limited number of them, and scarcity drives high prices.

Orders Halted, Relaunched

In September, Chevy halted orders for the Z06. At the time, the company said it might be able to build just 10% of the cars customers had ordered. Parts shortages limited the figure.

The company was so worried about flippers buying the cars and re-selling them for astronomical markups that it enacted rules to try to slow the flips, including a threat that re-sold ‘Vettes would lose their warranties.

Now, GM Authority reports, the General has unexpected re-opened orders.

GM won’t accept them on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, GM Authority says, “dealers that sold the most units of the Corvette Stingray 3LT will receive priority” for new Z06 allocation. So your best bet is to find a dealership that has handled a lot of Corvettes and try to work through them to get in line.
