General Motors has recalled about 56,000 midsize trucks because their automatic emergency braking systems can trigger for no reason. The company says it is aware of “234 field complaints in the U.S.” over the issue. Four caused accidents and three involved minor injuries.
Recalled models include the:
- 2023 Chevrolet Colorado
- 2023 GMC Canyon
The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that miscalibrated software can cause the trucks’ front cameras to trigger the automatic emergency braking system when there is no obstacle in front of the vehicle.
Because it’s a software issue, GM can fix it with a software update. But the trucks cannot download updates remotely, so owners will need to bring them to dealerships for the patch.
