Ford Recalls E-Transit Chassis Cabs Over Fire Risk

The 2025 Ford E-Transit, plugged in to charge

Ford has recalled 457 E-Transit Chassis Cabs from model years 2024-2025 over a battery problem that poses a fire risk. The company is asking owners to park at least 50 feet from structures and other cars until dealers have a chance to apply the fix.

The side rails of the vans’ battery trays can buckle and crack when repeatedly exposed to freezing temperatures, Ford says. That can allow water into the battery pack, triggering a short circuit and possibly a fire.

Ford says the problem developed during production. The company stored the vehicles outside before installing boxes that covered the battery tray. That may have allowed the cracks to start.

Dealers will inspect the battery tray and replace any part showing evidence of cracking or buckling.
