Ford has issued a recall for 272,817 compact trucks and SUVs because their batteries can fail long before they should.
Affected models include some, but not all, units of the:
- 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport
- 2022-2023 Ford Maverick
The problem is in the battery, not the vehicle, Ford tells federal safety regulators. The batteries Ford used for these vehicles “may experience internal weld and/or cast-on-strap failures, which could lead to a sudden battery degradation while driving.”
With a dead battery, a vehicle won’t start and may stall at low speeds or fail to restart after a stop if a stop/start system is active to save fuel.
Because the problem is in the battery, the solution is simple: Dealers will swap out the battery for one that works properly. Recall repairs are always free.
Automakers recall many cars every year, sometimes more than once. They try to reach every owner to warn them. However, some may fall through the system’s cracks and are left unknowingly driving recalled cars. Check our easy recall tool to determine if your car has any outstanding recalls.
