Ford has issued a recall alert for 2.9 million vehicles because they can roll away without warning when parked.
Affected models include:
- 2013-2018 C-Max
- 2013-2019 Escape
- 2013-2016 Fusion
- 2013-2021 Transit Connect
- 2015-2018 Edge
Over time, Ford said, the bushing that connects the transmission to the shifter cable in these vehicles can degrade. Weakened, it will eventually snap. If that happens, the driver can set the shifter to the park position without the transmission engaging the park setting.
This can result in the vehicle rolling away without warning or failing to restart.
Dealers will correct the problem by replacing the bushing and adding a protective cover to reduce wear.
