Ford has recalled 6,212 Mustang 2-doors from model year 2024 because their driver’s instrument screens can go blank without warning.
Automakers routinely improve the software that powers car features, sometimes making changes during a production run. Ford tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that a software update used for several months last year can leave the instrument panel intermittently dark.
That darkness leaves the driver unable to see their speed or critical safety messages.
The company is aware of no accidents or injuries, but at least 58 warranty claims related to the problem.
Dealers will fix it with a simple software update. However, these Mustangs cannot receive updates over the air, so owners must bring them into the dealership to have the patch installed. Software updates are typically fast service appointments.
Recall repairs are always free.
