The last Ford Mustang Bullitt rolled off the assembly line late last year, but there are still a few on dealership lots. Ford this week confirmed it will no longer make the model.
The Bullitt, priced at $47,705, was the most high-performance Mustang not to bear the Shelby name. The model is a tribute to a legendary movie car – the Highland green Mustang fastback Steve McQueen drove in the 1968 film Bullitt. That car was the winner in what many consider the greatest car chase in movie history.
There are three generations of Bullitt Mustangs. This most recent one was produced for model years 2019 and 2020. It boasts 480 horsepower (20 more than the GT models) from its 5.0-liter V8. Inside, it features unique instruments, upholstery stitching, and a milled shift knob exactly like all shift knobs should be (perfectly round, relatively small, and cool to the touch).
Outside, it’s available in just two colors – black and that beloved Highland green.
Ordinarily, when a model run ends, we tell you to expect discounts, as dealers are usually anxious to part with unsold models. But with such a specialty, low-volume model, we don’t expect to see prices change.
Though the Bullitt is disappearing, you’ll still be able to get something very similar in 2021. The Mustang Mach 1 takes its place in the lineup. It offers the same power boost, but is available in a full range of colors, and borrows a few performance tweaks from higher-end Shelby models, including an engine oil cooler and larger air intakes. The Mach 1 lists for $52,915.
