  • Adds exposed carbon fiber trim
  • Lighter carbon fiber wheels
  • Offered on only 250 models

Ford just introduced its latest special edition version of the Ford GT. Featuring more exposed carbon fiber than any previous Ford GT model, this one is called, appropriately, the Ford GT Carbon Series.

The Ford GT Carbon Series starts with standard dual exposed carbon fiber stripes replacing the optional painted stripes available on regular GT’s. These stripes are accompanied by exposed carbon fiber A-pillars, standard carbon fiber lower body trim, carbon fiber wheels, titanium lug nuts and a titanium exhaust system. The carbon fiber theme continues inside, with the Ford GT Carbon Series featuring exposed carbon fiber door sills, air register pods and center console. Other unique Carbon Series interior cues include contrasting seat and steering wheel stitching in silver, plus silver anodized shift paddles and a unique VIN badge on the dash.

A Carbon Series exterior enhancement option allows buyers to coordinate the GT’s brake calipers, mirror caps and center stripe (the space between the exposed carbon fiber stripes). Available colors for this package are blue, silver, orange and red, and while this exterior treatment sounds subtle the effect on the GT’s appearance is dramatic.

Lightest GT on market

The Carbon Series is more than an appearance package. In additional to the lighter carbon fiber wheels, titanium lug nuts and titanium exhaust, this model features a polycarbonate rear hatch, no cupholders and no driver’s side seat storage bin. The result is a 40 pound weight advantage for the Ford GT Carbon Series, making it the lightest GT now being offered. Ford GT-approved buyers can order the Carbon Series, but with production constrained to one a week total production will be limited to approximately 50 of the 250 GTs built in 2019.

GT intenders still looking to get approved can apply for one of the last 600 cars to be produced. The application process opens on November 8 and closes 30 days later.
