Ford Motor Co. has introduced a new Tremor off-road package available on 2020 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickups. “A growing number of Super Duty customers use their trucks for more than work,” says Ford truck group marketing manager Todd Eckert. “They’re fishing, camping and towing boats on weekends, and they go off-road, so we designed this truck specifically for them – more ground clearance, bigger shocks, bigger tires and more off-road capability.”

Available on XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks with either Ford’s all-new 7.3-liter gas V-8 or third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel and standard TorqShift 10-speed automatic transmission, the Tremor package will offer towing and payload ratings almost as high as non-Tremor models.

Ready for off-road duty

Off-road upgrades include aggressive 35-inch-diameter Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac max-traction tires – the largest-diameter tires available on any heavy-duty pickup – on unique 18-inch matte-black wheels. Combined with a 2-inch front-end lift and a shorter air dam, they give 10.8 inches of ground clearance, best-in-class 33-inch water-fording and approach and departure angles of 31.65 and 24.51 degrees, respectively, the best-ever for any Ford Super Duty pickup.

Class of 2020: The New and Redesigned Cars, Trucks and SUVs

Tremor has an electronic shift-on-the-fly locking rear differential and a new Dana limited-slip front differential that can sense loss of traction and use the brakes to divert torque to the higher-traction wheel. Progressive-rate springs, custom 1.7-inch-piston twin-tube shocks and a lower-rate rear stabilizer bar balance heavy-duty towing needs while controlling body motion with less “head toss” on rough, rutted trails.

Tuned for rugged terrain

At very low speeds, the suspension is tuned for soft-damped control on severe impacts while internal hydraulic rebound helps soften the hardest hits. Also included are off-road running boards tucked close to the body for damage control, extended-axle vent tubes and the same beefy skid plates used on FX4 off-road models.

Selectable drive modes include Normal, Tow/Haul for best performance under load, Eco for best fuel efficiency, Slippery for ice, Deep Snow/Sand for low-traction and a new Rock-Crawl mode optimized to operate in 4×4 Low. Crawl ratios are 53:1 with the gas engine and 44:1 with the diesel. And, for the first time, Super Duty Tremor trucks get cruise-control-like off-road Trail Control that operates in any mode.
