Ford F-150 Lightning Gets up to $10K Price Cut

2023 Ford F-150 Lightning in blue.Ford has slashed prices on its 2023 F-150 Lightning electric truck, with the base model’s price dropping almost $10,000 overnight.

The company says “increased plant capacity, continued work on scaling production and cost, and improving battery raw material costs” have come together to make the price cuts possible.

The company may have also scaled up production faster than demand has grown – dealers are currently oversupplied with electric vehicles (EVs) in some parts of the country. Demand for EVs is growing, but not as fast as supply of some models.

The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is a full-size pickup with ranges between 240 and 320 miles depending on trim level. Our expert test driver found it had “more than enough muscle for most requirements, even for work trucks,” though range falls significantly when towing up to its 10,000-pound limit. It offers blistering acceleration for a truck – zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds for extended range models – and helpful technology like an available built-in scale that weighs payload.

It took home our inaugural Best Buy Award among electric trucks this year.

It’s also the only electric full-size truck currently on the market. Startup Rivian’s R1T is a midsize truck. Rival startup Lordstown Motors has entered bankruptcy protection and no longer appears to be taking orders for its Endurance full-size truck.

But the competition is visible in the Lightning’s rearview mirror. Chevrolet has a Silverado EV on the way for the 2024 model year. Ram will follow shortly after with its 2025 Ram 1500 REV. Telsa has delayed the introduction of its Cybertruck electric truck several times, but the company may be closer to a final reveal than it was last month. Tesla on Saturday posted an image of the first pre-production prototype of the truck at its Texas assembly plant.
