We’re not aware that anyone has ever taken a precise accounting, but odds are pretty good that no car gets more special editions than the Ford Mustang. It’s a car with a special place in the American imagination, and every buyer can create their own exclusive model.
Two more join the Mustang stable for 2022. One has history. The other is new but riffs on some well-known Mustangs.
GT500 Heritage Edition
The 2022 Ford Mustang GT500 already commands attention. Its 760-horsepower V8 roars like nothing else on the road. But the GT500 name was born in 1967 with a car that had a very specific look. Ford is paying homage to it with the 2022 Mustang GT500 Heritage Edition.
There are two ways to order the stripe kit, and they vary wildly in price.
The heritage model comes in an exclusive shade of Brittany Blue, with Wimbledon White stripes. The 2022 Mustang Shelby GT500 has a starting U.S. MSRP of $72,900 (not including the $1,195 destination fee).
The Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition package is available with vinyl strips for an additional $2,140 or with hand-painted stripes for an added $12,140.
Ford says the GT500 Heritage Edition is available in “a limited run” but doesn’t explain how limited.
EcoBoost Coastal Edition
The Mustang EcoBoost Coastal Edition can’t call on 55 years of heritage, but it borrows a trick from another special edition Mustang. The Coastal Edition uses the rear side scoops from the California Special but adds exclusive 19-inch machined-finish wheels, illuminated sill plates, a spoiler, and vinyl side stripes that trace down the sides and fold over the hood.
It can be ordered on Brittany Blue, Cyber Orange, or Rapid Red Mustangs.
The 2022 Mustang EcoBoost Premium has a starting U.S. MSRP of $32,225 (not including the $1,195 destination fee), and the Coastal Limited Edition package adds $1,995.
Ford dealers begin taking orders for both models today, with delivery scheduled for next spring.
