Electrify America, operator of one of the largest electric vehicle (EV) charging networks in America, will more than double its EV charging infrastructure in the U.S. and Canada by 2025. The new plan, the company says, will extend its network to 49 states and the District of Columbia. Alaskans are out of luck.
According to CEO Giovanni Palazzo, the plan will “help meet the need for the rapid growth expected of electric vehicles by virtually all the auto manufacturers.”
10,000 Chargers in Four Years
The company “plans to have more than 1,800 fast charging stations and 10,000 individual chargers installed by the end of 2025.”
The company aims to build chargers near highways and shopping amenities. Many will have canopies to protect drivers from the weather when plugging in.
On a global scale, Tesla has more charging stations with over 25,000 of its Superchargers. But non-Tesla vehicles cannot use Tesla superchargers without an adapter. Electrify America’s network is open to all EVs.
Deals With Many EV Manufacturers
Electrify America is owned by the Volkswagen Group. All VW and Audi EVs come with free charging at Electrify America stations for varying time periods.
Several other manufacturers offer free charging at EA-owned stations with the purchase of new EVs. Buyers of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Kona Electric, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Mercedes-Benz EQS all qualify for some amount of complimentary charging at Electrify America stations.
