Electric BMW iX SUV Certified for 300+ Mile Range

2022 BMW iXThe first all-electric SUV from BMW has everything, from a 4.4-second 0-to-60 time to creature comforts built from sustainable materials. And it does it all with more than 300 miles of range.

Official EPA certifications for the 2022 BMW  iX are out. Every version of the 5-seat SUV is good for more than 300 miles on a charge.

The iX reaches American dealerships in the first quarter of 2022. Prices start at $83,200 plus a $995 destination fee.

The iX comes with only one powertrain option – a 516-horsepower setup that uses a motor on each axle to create all-wheel drive grip. Buyers can choose from three wheel sizes, which slightly affects the range. With the standard 20-inch wheels, the EPA says, the iX should travel 324 miles between charges. Larger 21-inch wheels reduce it to 305 miles. Oddly, still-larger 22-inch wheels bump it back up a bit. That version is good for 315 miles.

The iX is a bit of an experiment for BMW. The German company designed it to fit in with the rest of their lineup – sportier than the average SUV and still luxurious. But they also designed it to test their ability to make cars in a sustainable manner. That meant not just using recycled parts but planning for how parts could be recycled at the end of the car’s life. BMW even went so far as to invest in more sustainable lithium mining, trying to bring a human rights focus to the growing EV battery industry.
